Joanna Lunin, MA, BSN
Joanna Lunin is a Registered Nurse turned Counselor working in Houston, TX as an LPC at River’s Edge Counseling + Wellness. During her time as a bedside nurse at Houston Methodist Hospital, she began seeing a pattern of specific behaviors among some of her patients living with end-stage Congestive Heart Failure and Kidney Failure. Her search to understand this pattern of disengagement, hypoarousal, and a lack of self-agency brought her to the work of Dr.
Learning about the pervasive physical and mental effects of trauma propelled her to leave the bedside, and to pursue a career in professional counseling. Now working as a mental health professional, she strives to help bridge the counseling and medical professions, by increasing awareness of the effects of trauma within the medical community. Her hope for this endeavor is not only to improve patient outcomes, but to also improve the lives and well-being of the brave
